Jessica reads extracts from her acclaimed novel “Hungarian Dances”, an international bestseller that follows the turbulent story of a gypsy who becomes a famous classical violinist, but at a terrible personal price. The tale is richly illustrated with music for violin and piano that has its roots in the Gypsy-Folk style.

It is more than twenty years since the trio burst upon the international scene, winning the Charles Hennen and Melbourne International competitions. They play all over the world but return annually to the North East for the Corbridge Festival which they share with Robert Plane who has delighted us twice recently. They will play two classics as well as the exciting trio by Charle Ives.

The quartet, which had recently won the St Martin-in-the-Fields Competition, played for us first two years ago and we immediately resolved that they should return. They have since
been selected for the Future Classics “Classical Tour” which promotes the “stars of tomorrow” , played three times at the Wigmore Hall, released CD's and continued their development in Vienna and Madrid. As in their previous concert they are presenting a wide variety of quartet styles.

Endymion was formed as a versatile group of young musicians in 1979 and retains most of the original players. They are as much at home with the classics as with modern music and have premiered many pieces. They have appeared nine times at the Proms. We welcome

We are fortunate to welcome the Brodskys back home again over 40 years since they left Middlesbrough to become world famous. They have been an inspiration over the years and spend quite some time coaching young players these days. Having made over 50 CDs there is not much music that they haven't attempted and we shall hear both familiar and less known pieces in this concert.

The Revolutionary Drawing Room play music from the time of the evolution of the string quartet which was also the time of revolutionary politics in Western Europe. They play instruments of the period and use gut strings and bows. For this concert they have selected pieces by Mozart and three others who played at the time with him. We are pleased to welcome Ruth Alford back to Nunthorpe.
